May 27, 2009 - 349 (F) Sqn congratulates Frank De Winne on his succesfull launch and wishes him the best for the rest of the OasISS mission aboard the International Space Station. Frank De Winne is, as a former 349 Squadron Commander, only the second Belgian astronaut and the only one the be launched into orbit for a second time. Over the next 6 moths he wil be part of the first six-person ISS Expedition crew. During his stay he will conduct various scientific research experiments, operate the robotic arms to dock the Japanese H-II Transfer Vehicle to the ISS and assume command of the space station during the second half of his stay, a first for a European astronaut.
